Artists from around the globe arrive for Wausau’s Artrageous Weekend
WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAW)—As Wausau’s Artrageous Weekend approaches, the art community is preparing for a couple of busy days. Four venues make up the big event: The Woodson Art Museum, The Center for the Visual Arts, Wausau Festival of Arts, and Art in the Park.
“We definitely expect several thousands of people to come, whether from the central Wisconsin area or throughout the Midwest,” Bryce Cebula, Marketing & Communication Manager for the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum said.
All four venues have something to show this weekend. At the Woodson Art Museum, it’s their 49th annual Birds in Art exhibit.
“This year the show has 107 artists,” Cebula said, “and we’re expecting about half of them to be here throughout the weekend.”
Those artists include Larry Barth, who has exhibited in the show since 1980.
“Birds in Art is the most important event in my artistic world,” Barth said.
This year’s Master Artist is Sweden’s Gunnar Tryggmo.
“This year is a special year for me,” Tryggmo told NewsChannel 7, “because I have more than one piece in the show.”
Tryggmo is one of many international artists making the trip to take part in the show in-person.
“There are people coming in from Australia and Germany, and all over the United States,” he said.
The artists will be available to take about what inspires them to create.
Barth told NewsChannel 7 that he looks forward to, “getting to know the background story on the pieces that intrigue you, to talk to the artist to find out more.”
Birds in Art, like the other events that make up Wausau’s Artrageous Weekend, is free to attend.
“Artrageous is an opportunity to show that art can really be for everybody, Cebula said, “given all the offerings we have between the four venues to the community, there’s something for everyone to find and enjoy throughout the weekend.”
A free shuttle service will be available to take attendees between the four different venues. The event takes place September 7-8.
